The Initiative on Race and Resilience is excited to welcome David Martin the new IRR Artist in Residence 2023-24.
David Martin is a citizen of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and used his upbringing in a traditional native family to influence his art. Proudly self-trained, his artistic mediums include oil painting, beadwork, and tattoo art. During his residency, Martin plans to focus his artistic energy into depicting Pokagon scenes and people from the past with a unique eye toward the present and future of his people. He will be available to meet with students, visit classes, offer workshops, and plans to open his studio space to visitors. Also keep an eye out for his solo show of oil paintings at the South Bend Museum of Art starting in January 2024.
