Come enjoy a viewing of the documentary Pokagon Band of Potawatomi: A Song for Everything, a brilliant story about tribal expressionism, individualism, and what it means to be Pokagon citizens in America today. This documentary features artist-in-residence David Martin.
Discussion to follow by Zada Ballew, historical consultant and cultural liaison for the Native American Initiative of Notre Dame.
Zada Ballew is an enrolled citizen of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, a 2019 graduate of Notre Dame, and a Ph.D. candidate in U.S. history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her dissertation explores the business history of her tribe, from treaties in the 1820s to casinos today. On campus, she serves as the historical consultant and cultural liaison for the Native American Initiative of Notre Dame. In this role, she partners with Hesburgh Libraries and scholars on campus and in the community to research the Native American history of ND from the founding to the present.
