Building an Anti-Racist Vocabulary
Join the Klau Center for Civil and Human Rights for this special event to cap off our 2020-21 series. Five Notre Dame students and alumni will come together to discuss how racial justice can be addressed through student activism. Appearing on the panel will be:
Matthew Aubourg ‘21
Following George Floyd's murder, Matty Aubourg, alongside other Black student leaders, worked closely with university leadership to evaluate Notre Dame's shortcomings regarding diversity and inclusion issues, and develop plans to bridge the gaps that keep students, staff, and faculty of color from being welcomed fully into our campus community.
Miranda Cuozzo ‘23
Miranda Cuozzo is a junior Architecture student with a minor in Africana Studies. She is Vice-President of Notre Dame’s chapter of the National Organization for Minority Architecture Students, and a founding member of Frontline Advocacy Club, a student group dedicated to creating a diverse space for discussion and action against inequality.
Frankie Tran ‘21
Frankie Tran is a Senior Fellow for the Multicultural Student Programs and Services (MSPS), for which he presents workshops for students on-campus to promote mindfulness and microaggression intervention strategies. Initially involved with Asian clubs on campus, his involvement with diversity and inclusion initiatives began during his freshman year, and he has continued to work with staff and administrators. He is now Vice Chair of the Diversity Council during his final year at ND.
Mikayla Vaughn ‘21
Mikayla Vaughn, a native of Philadelphia, is a senior on the Notre Dame Women’s Basketball team. Vaughn’s impact and leadership on the court has been felt for the past four seasons. Off the court, Vaughn majors in Art Studio with a concentration in photography and psychology. After graduation, Vaughn aims to become an advocate and fundraise for civil and human rights and provide opportunities for the disenfranchised.
Malik Zaire, ‘17
Malik majored in Film, Theatre and Theatre at Notre Dame, with a minor in Peace Studies, and was quarterback for the Fighting Irish during his sophomore and junior years. Malik is now a sports analyst with CBS News and appears on the SiriusXM ACC podcast.
Building an Anti-Racist Vocabulary is a weekly lecture series presenting preeminent scholars, thought leaders, and public intellectuals to guide our community through topics necessary to a deeper understanding of systemic racism and racial justice.
Lectures are available to the Notre Dame community via Zoom. Registration with a valid nd.edu or alumni.nd.edu is required.
