Biography

Zach Sell is a historian of slavery, imperialism, and capitalism in the nineteenth century. His book Trouble of the World: Slavery and Empire in the Age of Capital examines the convergence between the expansion of U.S. slavery and the transformation of the British Empire in the mid-nineteenth century. He was previously visiting assistant professor at Brown University's Ruth J. Simmons Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice. He is also actively engaged in public humanities scholarship on the history and legacy of slavery in the Atlantic world including in support of a forthcoming multi-part documentary film series on the Atlantic slave trade.
